Comparative Analysis

For this task I chose 'Let It Be' by The Beatles as, to put it simply, is a great song. I also really like how simple it is with it only 4 chords. As with the original piece I have also used a four chord progression of , ( I, V, vi, IV) in the key of C major. This what makes the piece so elegant yet so very simple.

Tone Colour

Tone Colour is definately the biggest change in my cover and the biggest part of that would be the switch from piano to guitar which is my melody. Some tone colour words stay similar as it's still bright and calm but with all the values of an acoustic guitar compared to a piano like it being a tad thinner and even giving it a bit of a mild nasal- like quality that isn't unpleasant. Also without the addition of a choir in the background it doesn't have a gospal feel and adding to that would also be the non-existance of the organ which had some of its parts replaced by the guitar. Also the addition of the rice shaker and 'pot lid' i used added a new level of percussion and rhythm to the piece.

Structure

I altered the structure a fair amount giving it a new form as it has only 1 less chorus and 1 less verse. My strcture is the following:

  • Verse 1

  • chorus1

  • verse2

  • chorus2

  • outro

compared the the original which was:

  • verse1

  • chorus1

  • verse2

  • chorus2

  • solo

  • verse3

  • chorus3

Pitch

For pitch there is only a slight change. The chord progression still is there and very noticable but the range in pitch is a bit smaller as when you, for example the F chord actually a different as the F in it is as low as the original.

Texture

Texture is slightly different as it is a thinner cover with less instruments. There isn't a drum kit but to substitute for that i added some percussion devices and the piano had 2 parts while the guitar has 1 but I sorted it out by added to separate recordings of a bass part and the normal part.
